What is Tanari

Tanari is the first self-owned Bitcoin financial platform where you can store, send, receive, and soon lend, borrow, and earn with your BTC. Built on Citrea, Tanari gives you everything Bitcoin finance should offer, while you stay in full control.

Is Tanari easy to use, even if I'm not technical?

Absolutely! Ease of use is a core focus. We use familiar login methods like Face ID or Fingerprint instead of complex seed phrases. The UI is designed to be intuitive, making managing your Bitcoin feel straightforward, much like modern banking apps, but with the added benefit of self-ownership.

What does “self-owned” actually mean?

It means no one controls your assets except you. There are no middlemen, no platforms holding your funds, and no need to ask permission. With Tanari, you get powerful financial tools while staying in full control of your Bitcoin.

Is Tanari secure? How do you protect my Bitcoin?

Security is paramount. Tanari is self-custodial (self-owned), meaning only you have control over your private keys and your Bitcoin. We leverage advanced security features like:

Passkeys: Your keys are protected by your device's secure hardware (like the Secure Enclave on iPhones) and accessed via your biometrics (Face ID/Fingerprint). This avoids the risks of writing down or losing seed phrases.
Bitcoin Layer 2 (Citrea): Transactions happen on a most secure layer built on top of Bitcoin, inheriting Bitcoin's own security for transaction settlement. Something no other L2 on Bitcoin offers.
No Centralized Custody: Tanari never holds your funds, eliminating the risk associated with trusting exchanges or third parties.

Do I need a seed phrase at any point?

No. Tanari doesn’t use seed phrases at all. There are no 12 or 24 words to memorize, hide, or worry about losing.

Your security comes from passkeys and your guardian setup, giving you safer recovery without the stress and risk of traditional seed phrases.

What happens if I lose my phone? Can I recover my Bitcoin?

Yes, recovery options are built-in, leveraging the secure cloud backups associated with your Passkeys (like iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager) and potentially other secure recovery methods we'll offer. The key is that recovery is managed through secure mechanisms you control, not by Tanari holding your keys or seed phrase.

Yes. If you lose your phone, you can fully recover your Tanari account and your Bitcoin. Your passkey is safely backed up through your device’s secure system (like iCloud Keychain or Google Password Manager). And if your passkey isn’t available, your guardians can approve a recovery request to help you regain access. They can’t see your balance or access your funds, they only confirm that it’s really you. With your passkey and guardian setup, your Bitcoin stays recoverable at all times, without Tanari ever holding your keys or seed phrase.

How does passkey security compare to seed phrases?

Passkeys are hardware-backed, phishing-resistant, and protected by your device’s secure chip. Seed phrases are easy to lose or leak.

Passkeys remove the biggest failure point in Bitcoin self-custody- human error.

What are Guardians?

Guardians are trusted people that help you recover your Tanari account if you ever lose access to your phone. They cannot see your balance, move your Bitcoin, or access your account/wallet. They can only approve a recovery request you start.

What can I do with Tanari?

Initially, you will be able to securely store, send, and receive Bitcoin. Our vision is to quickly expand this to include:

Easy purchasing and selling of Bitcoin (Fiat on/off ramps).
Earning interest on your Bitcoin through integrated protocols.
Borrowing against your Bitcoin.
Accessing Bitcoin-backed stablecoins.
Seamless Bitcoin payments.

Can guardians ever move, see, or access my Bitcoin?

No. Guardians cannot see your balance, access your account, or move your BTC. Their only role is to approve a recovery request you initiate. Nothing else.

Where can I send and receive Bitcoin using Tanari?

You’ll be able to send and receive BTC from:

Other Tanari users (via Citrea)
Any on-chain Bitcoin address
Lightning wallets and invoices

How many guardians do I need, and can I change them later?

You can start with one guardian, or add several, the choice is completely yours. The more guardians you add, the stronger your recovery setup becomes.

You can also set a recovery threshold (for example: any 2 out of 3 guardians must confirm).

How are payments handled? Is it fast and cheap?

Tanari utilizes Citrea, a Bitcoin rollup solution. This means transactions are confirmed much faster and cost significantly less than traditional Bitcoin transactions, while still being secured by the main Bitcoin network.

What if one of my guardians loses their device?

Nothing happens to your account. You simply remove that guardian and add another one whenever you want.

Will you ever support other cryptocurrencies?

Tanari is all about Bitcoin, and that will always be our focus. But we know flexibility matters, so in the future, we plan to support some form of stablecoins to give users more options. That said, altcoins? Not happening. We’re not here for the altcoin casino.

What if I don’t trust anyone to be my guardian?

You can create a second Tanari account on your other device (phone) and use that as a guardian.

Will Tanari charge fees?

We aim to keep core features affordable. Some services-like bridging, Lightning routing, or advanced tools-may include small fees to keep the platform sustainable.

You’ll always know what you’re paying. Every cost will be clearly shown in the app before you take action, so there are no hidden fees.

When can I add or remove guardians?

You can add new guardians, remove old ones, or replace them with new ones anytime you want. Your recovery setup is completely in your control and can evolve as your needs change.

Please note that since guardian changes are on-chain actions, they require a small gas fee.

What is Citrea / Layer 2? Why does it matter?

Citrea is a Bitcoin-native Layer 2 rollup that enables Tanari to offer fast payments, stablecoins, smart contracts, and low fees, all while staying anchored to Bitcoin. Thanks to this technology, we can bring modern financial tools to Bitcoin without compromising on its security or principles.
